Hops essential oil is very closely related to Hemp (same plant family) in terms of its activity (anxiety-relieving and sedative) and both oils are often sought out by stressed and anxious animals. They may be selected together or with Valerian or Roman Chamomile.

Hops may also be sought out to soothe fears which are unknown or subconscious in origin.

Hops essential oil - Humulus lupulus

Hops are native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere and are often used in the brewing of beer.

The hop is part of the cannabaceae family, which also includes the genera cannabis (hemp).

Anxious animals have selected hops. Its effect is often enhanced when offered together with valerian and/or hemp seed essential oil.

Properties: Hops essential oil is very closely related to Hemp (same plant family) in terms of its activity (anxiety-relieving and sedative) and both oils are often sought out by stressed and anxious animals. They may be selected together or with Valerian or Roman Chamomile.

Hops are also a very potent oestrogenic which makes it useful to offer to when oestrogen is deficient in females or when testosterone levels are too high. Hops have the effect of lowering testosterone in the bloodstream and is a useful oil to offer when male horses are displaying aggressive behaviour due to the production of excessive testosterone.

Principle constituents: Sesquiterpene. Primarily humulene, up to 30% mycene, some esters, ketones, and acids.

Precautions: appears to be nontoxic, excessive amounts may be narcotic, avoid with depression, avoid with hormone dependent cancers such as breast, uterine and ovarian, do not use this oil for extended periods.
